Washington License Plates
A selection of better quality license plates from the state of Washington. Due to YOM or Year of Manufacture laws, pairs of Washington license plates in excellent condition are worth a lot of money. YOM is the ability to use the same year of license plates as the year of your antique or classic muscle car. The state of Washington was a late entry into license plates, their first year of issue wasn't until 1916, however the state began registering automobiles in 1906, it was up to the car owners to make their own license plates, the only requirement from Washington concerning these homemade license plates was they had to have a WN somwhere on the face. They could be made of any material and about the only prestate tags to survive from this era are made of leather. For several years of early state production a small x was used and this signified a passenger car. The only slogans used on WA tags were Golden Jubilee in 1939 and Centennial Celebration which started in 1989.
