County of Washington, Abingdon, VA 25 Cent Fractional Change Note. Washington County was formed in 1776, during the American Revolution from Fincastle County and the county seat is Abingdon. A red 25 is overprinted on these Virginia Civil War vintage bills. The bill states that The County of Washington Virginia will pay on and after the first day of January 1864 Twenty Five Cents In such funds as are receivable in payment of dues to the Commonwealth when presented to the Treasurer in sums of five dollars or its multiple. I have more than one of these quarter fractional notes from Washington County so the one in the picture might not be the one you recieve, but all these VA civil war notes are of the same very good to fine condition.
