Virginia Confederate Money Page County 1 Dollar Civil War Bond Fine

Luray, VA - Page County Bond $1 Paper Money issued July 22, 1861. An eagle vignette is seen across the left end of this $1 bond. "The Faith of the County is Pledged" is on the right hand side. These bonds were issued during the Civil War in order to raise funds for uniforms and equipment to supply the volunteer companies. The monies from these bonds could be used to furnish horses for the calvary companies and also to help support the families of the soldiers of Page County that fought in the Civil War. Mann Almond's signature is on this note as president, while Mann Spitler signed it as secretary. It is estimated that only between 25 to 49 of these Civil War era bonds still exist. The county seal is embossed across the right side. Grade Fine.
