Nickname or Vignettes - plain typeset note, with a small eagle at the top center Date & Place of Issue - September 15, 2862 from Monterey Virginia Serial Number & Plate Letter - 3582 Condition - very good, with a nicer appearance, with a pinhole in the center Back - plain, with fold marks and a mounting mark present Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Not applicable Number Issued & Printers - William Hevener was the presiding justice and the bill was signed by A. Stephenson as the treasurer. Type of Bank Paper Used - plain white paper Payable In - The county of Highland will pay to bearer at the office of the county treasurer twenty five cents in bankable currency, when presented in sums of five dollars. Receivable in payment of all county dues. Notes - Highland county is Virginia's least populated county, Monterey is the county seat with a population of less than 500. Because of the mountainous terrain, Highland county is known as Virginia's Little Switzerland. Several civil war battles and skirmishes were fought here including the Battle of McDowell with Stonewall Jackson. This was a border county, bordering with the Union's West Virginia.
