Type of Confederate Money - Fifty dollar treasury bill issued by the commonwealth of Virginia during the Civil War era.
Nickname or Vignettes - The portrait on the left is Governor James M. Mason, on the right is a vignette portraying Prosperity seated with Commerce and Navigation.
Date & Place of Issue - Issued on October 15, 1862 from Richmond Virginia.
Serial Number & Plate Letter - 3695 B
Condition - Extra fine
Back - The backs of this Virginia confederate money are plain. This one is nice as per grade.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number VA-7
Number Issued & Printers - The printers of this note were Keatinge and Ball of Columbia South Carolina. The commonwealth issued 5.3 million dollars in 2 different acts of this 1862 currency. That included all denominations. This 2nd currency bill was to replace the first issue of interest bearing notes of 1861.
Type of Bank Paper Used - good quality bank note paper with no watermarks.
Payable In - The commonwealth of Virginia will pay to the bearer fifty dollars on demand at the treasury. The faith of the Commonwealth is pledged.
