VA Civil War Currency 5 dollars
A nice mid grade Virginia CSA treasury note issued during the War of Rebellion on October 15, 1861 from Richmond VA. The grade is very fine with a couple small pinholes, overall has a very nice appearance for the grade. The reason for the very fine grade instead of a higher designation, are fold marks, which are much more noticeable from the back than from the front. The serial number is 1394 and the Criswell number is CR05. This bill is from the much scarcer first series of Civil War notes issued by the commonwealth of Virginia, which were all printed by the Richmond firm of Hoyer and Ludwig, who also produced notes for the confederacy in addition to other states. This 5.00 note is the lowest denomination of the 1861 series. The pictures show the front and back of the actual Virginia confederate money that is for sale.
VA Obsolete Money 5.00 Treasury note issued 10-15-1861 and grading very fine
