Confederate money from Virginia being a twenty dollar bill drawn on the Commonwealth Bank. This VA currency was issued from Richmond before the Civil War started on September 9, 1858, but his bill would have circulated during the rebellion. Even though only grading very good, this note has a much nicer apperance, with dark red overprints, which are better than the picture suggests, the centering is also excellent. There are numerous minute pinholes which lower the grade, but are not noticeable until you look up close. In the lower left corner is the Virginia state of Arms, the center vignette is a farmer and sailor setting with a large shield between them, on the right is a portrait of our third president, Thomas Jefferson. It is estimated that today only between 50 to 99 of these 20.00 Commonwealth Bank notes still exist. The picture shows the actual Virginia confederate money that is for sale from the Commonwealth Bank.
