Vermont Motorcycle License Plates

Vermont started registering motorcycles in 1905, but at this time regular passenger plates were issued to the bikes. From 1911-15 the Department of Motor Vehicles issued small round brass discs with the State seal and Registered Motor Cycle No. In the late 1940s the state used the slogan Green Mountains for a couple years, this was an early motorcycle plate slogan, as not many states used slogans on the small bike tags at this time. The DMV used the M prefix from 1951 through 1968, and in 1960 the state finally had to go to a 4 digit format for their motorcycles. I guess up until this time there were less than 1,000 cycles registered in the state.
