Vermont License Plates

The state of Vermont mandated that their residents license their automobiles in the year 1904, with the first year of issue of license plates then being in 1905. These 05 tags had Vermont Automobile Register printed across the top and less than 1,000 of these Register tags were produced in 1905, 1906 and 1907, thus creating a rarity for today's collectors. These first 3 issues of Vermont license plates will each bring in the neighborhood of 10,000.00 and upwards for better conditions. Green Mountains, See Vermont and Green Mountain State are some of the slogans that have been used by Vermont through the years. The first graphic plate was manufactured in 1985 which only consisted of a small tree in the upper left hand corner. Vermont has issued pairs through most of their license plate history with the exception of the first 3 years and the World War II era, when only single tags were manufactured. With the exception of the first 3 years of rare auto register tags and the next few year of porcelain issues, the rest of the license plates of Vermont are fairly inexpensive for today's collector.
