Type 65 & Type 66 Confederate Money
These two notes are from the seventh series of CSA currency that was printed during 1864 in large quantities. The one hundred dollar note, which is type 65, featured Lucy Pickens, the wife of the Governor of South Carolina. For a long time it was thought that this portrait was of Mrs. Jefferson Davis, but in later years was finally proven that it was in fact, Mrs. Lucy Pickens. The fifty dollar note, Type 66 is the fourth and the last of the Jefferson Davis 50.00 issues. Both of these CSA bills were produced on different colors of paper from pink to orange to darker reds, with the latter bringing a premium over the lighter colors. Both of these issues of confederate money are still fairly common and still can be bought at a reasonable cost in the upper uncirculated conditions.
