Type 57 Obsolete Civil War Currency Type of Confederate Money - 50.00 Bank Note issued by the government of the Confederate States of America Nickname or Vignettes - Jefferson Davis Date & Place of Issue - Issued in the middle period of the Civil War on April 6th, 1863 from Richmond Virginia. Serial Number & Plate Letter - 4933 printed in red by machine. This machine was to make the notes so they were harder to counterfeit. Evidently this worked as no known contemporary counterfeits are known to exsist of the T-57. The plate letter is A. Condition - A beautful choice almost uncirculated note. The red machine printed serial numbers along with the red overdate stamp of July 1863 stand out vividly against the green of the bill. The red on the numbers is much brighter and redder than the picture suggests. The green overprints are still quite vivid and the bill has excellent centering, which adds considerably to the eye appeal. Back - This confederate money had an ornate green back with geometric designs and The Confederate States of America written along with 2 50s in medallions. This example has 2 hinge marks from an old time collector. Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 412, Fricke PF - 14, which means that Keatinge and Ball, Columbia South Carolina is written above the fundable clause, no flourish is over the "con" in confederate and 1st series is in large lettering and no period after series. Number Issued & Printers - 2,349,600 were issued by Keatinge and Ball of Richmond Virginia and Columbia South Carolina. Type of Bank Paper Used - High quality bank note paper Payable In - Fundable in stocks or bonds of the Confederate States of America Notes - This T-57 has the maroon date stamp, which makes it more desirable, this one is stamped with July 1863. The actual confederate money for sale is in the picture, in addition the back of this obsolete civil war currency can also be seen in the photo gallery.
