Civil War Currency T-45 1.00 Lucy PIckens 1862 in VG-F condition
A very nice for the grade Type 45 confederate money, which has a portrait of Lucy Pickens at the right, steamship in the center and at the left is a vignette representing Liberty. These Lucy Pickens notes are notorious for having very poor cut margins, as there was just a thin line seperating the notes on the sheets, therefore, bills with a good cut such as this one aren't that easy to find. The grade is Very good - Fine, the green overprint is still nice and paper quality still decent, with the exception of some pinholes. The backs of this obsolete civil war currency are plain, this one shows considerable wear as per grade. The type 45 are the same as the type 44 except B. Duncan added a green overprint to help with counterfeiting, but the hardstrapped CSA government was unwilling to pay for this added feature, so this green overprint was soon dropped. Duncan issued 412,500 of these type 45s before stopping the green One. These confederate money examples are very scarce in the upper uncirculated conditions, this is a pleasing example without breaking the pocketbook. Issued June 2, 1862 from Richmond Virginia. The picture shows the actual type 45 confederate money that is for sale.
