Type of Confederate Money - 1.00 Note from the 4th series of civil war currency issued by the government of the CSA.
Nickname or Vignettes - "Lucy Pickens" The left vignette is a woman who is signifying Liberty with a shield, the center is ships adn on the right is a portrait of Lucy Pickens, the wife of South Carolina Governor Pickens. Mrs. Pickens was portrayed on several issues of Southern States confederate money.
Date & Place of Issue - Issued from Richmond, Virginia during the early part of the Civil War on June 2nd, 1862.
Serial Number & Plate Letter - 34819 which is written by hand in red ink, the plate position is 4.
Condition - This confederate money is professionally graded by PMG at Choice About Uncirculated 58 and even has the Excellent paper quality designation. There are 3 full frame lines and part of the 4th present. These are rare with good centering. You can see on this note, how little space there was before the next bill started, as this example has parts of the next bills attatched.
Back - The back of this Civil War Currency is plain, this one is a nice white with no noticeable blemishes.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 342 and Fricke PF-02. There are only 2 different varieties of this obsolete money, series one and series two. This is series 2.
Number Issued & Printers - 412,500 printed by B. Duncan of Columbia South Carolina. The T-45 is the same as the T-44 except B. Duncan added the green ONE overprint on the type 45s. When the Confederate States of America wouldn't pay him any extra money for the green overprinting, B. Duncan then stopped and went back to the plain notes of the T-44.
Type of Bank Paper Used - Low quality paper which did not hold up very well. Consequently this type of confederate money is scarce in the upper grades, such as this example. In good to fine the T-45 is common, but true very fine examples and up are hard to find.
Payable In - Six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States the Confederate States of America will pay one dollar to bearer. Fundable in 8% stock or confederate states bonds.
