Type of Confederate Money - T-44 1.00 CSA Currency
Nickname & Vignettes - A Lucy Pickens 1.00 note. The left vignette shows a female representing Liberty standing by a shield, the center is an old steam ship along with a sailing ship in the background. The right vignette is of Mrs. Lucy Pickens, who was the wife of the South Carolina governor.
Date and Place of Issue - Richmond Virginia and issued during the early part of the Civil War on June 2, 1862.
Serial Number and Plate Letter - Various serial and plate numbers.
Condition - This group of notes are uncirculated, but show some handling wear. They are also cut slightly into the borders, but still are not bad for this issue. Some might also have a tape mark or other slight blemish. These are still very nice examples of type 44 confederate money.
Back - Plain, very light pencil figures in the corners from an old time collector, who printed 341 in pencil on each note.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - This group of obsolete Civil War money will be various varieties.
Number issued and printers - 1,689,860 by B. Duncan of Columbia South Carolina
Payable In - Fundable in eight percent stock or confederate states bonds, six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States. Recievable in payment of all dues except export duties.
Notes - I have more than one of these type 44 confederate money, so the one in the photograph might not be the one you will recieve. I did not photo a back of this group. Lucy Pickens was a popular figure on Civil War Obsolete Money, she appeared on several notes during the War Between the States.
