Type of Confederate Money - T-44 1.00 CSA Currency Nickname & Vignettes - A Lucy Pickens 1.00 note. The left vignette shows a female representing Liberty standing by a shield, the center is an old steam ship along with a sailing ship in the background. The right vignette is of Mrs. Lucy Pickens, who was the wife of the South Carolina governor. Date and Place of Issue - Richmond Virginia and issued during the early part of the Civil War on June 2, 1862. Serial Number and Plate Letter - 2820 written in red ink, plate number is 5. Condition - Uncirculated with some handling marks, also a pinhole, but the great thing about this example is full border marks. Even though the trim is tight at places, the full border line can be seen all around this confederate money. These are rare with a good cut. Back - Plain, has some small markings in the lower right corner Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell #341 and Fricke PF-3, which means this note is from the 3rd series. Number issued and printers - 1,689,860 by B. Duncan of Columbia South Carolina Payable In - Fundable in eight percent stock or confederate states bonds, six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States. Recievable in payment of all dues except export duties. Notes - The pictures show the front and back of the actual T-44 confederate money that is for sale. This obsolete Civil War Currency was printed on cheap paper and they circulated heavily during the conflict. However, enough were printed that uncirculated examples can be found, but choice notes with full borders are scarce in this type.
