Type 44 Confederate Money Uncirculated condition
Confederate Money type 44 issued during the Civil War on June 02, 1862 at Richmond Virginia. Criswell lists this as variety 339 and the PF number is T44 PF1, which means this is from the First Series. This confederate money is uncirculated. It has 3 complete borders and frame lines and part of the frame line on the 4th side. Type 44 confederate money was printed on low quality paper and was usually very poorly cut, however a lot were produced 1,689,860 so they are readily available in the lower quality grades, but are somewhat scarce in the upper uncirculated grades, especially with good cuts. These were heavily circulated during the Civil War. Lucy Pickens, the wife of the South Carolina Governor is the woman on the right side, a steamship also under sail is in the center and the left vignette is Liberty standing by a shield.
