| Confederate Money type 43 issued June 02, 1862 during the Civil War from Richmond Virginia. The type 43 confederate money 2.00 bill is the same as type 42, except the type 43 has the 2 Two in green overprint. The printer B. Duncan had added the green overprint, but the confederacy was unwilling to pay extra for this feature, so Duncan dropped the green overprint. Therefore, not many of these notes were produced. The total mintage was 194,900 and these bills circulated heavily and were printed on low quality paper. Consequently, these bills are very scarce in any grade above fine. If you can even find one in uncirculated condition, expect to pay upwards of 15,000.00 or more. This Fine bill is about as nice a note you can find for a modest sum. Even though it is circulated a good bit, and has some pinholes, this type 43 confederate money still has a nice appearance and will make a good addition to any Civil War currency collection. Judah P. Benjamin is in the upper left corner. Benjamin was known as the Brains of the Confederacy, he served as secretary of war and then later as Secretary of State for the Confederacy during the Civil War. The center vignette features the South striking down the North with the North signifed by an eagle, as the South considered the North as the agressor. The front and back of the actual type 43 Confederate Money for sale is pictured. |
