Type of Confederate Money - T-42 2.00 CSA Currency Nickname and Vignettes - Judah P. Benjamin on the left, the center vignette is a portrayal of the South striking down the North. This obsolete money from the Civil War is usally known as a Judah P. Benjamin 2.00 note. Date & Place of Issue - Richmond Virginia during the early part of the Civil War on June 2nd, 1862 Serial Number & Plate Letter - Various Condition - Fine - Very Fine Back - Plain, the backs have fold markings, some have figures written by old time collectors. These are a step above the fine grouping that I have listed. Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Various Number Issued and Printers - 1,520,000 by B. Duncan of Columbia South Carolina Payable In - This confederate money was fundable in eight percent stock or bonds of the Confederate States, Six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States. Notes & Misc Information Not counting the erroneous type 38s, these are the first 2.00 bills issued by the Confederacy and also the first to feature Judah P. Benjamin. The T-38 is the same note as this one but was mistakenly dated wrong with the 1861 date. These bills were printed on low quality paper and most circulated heavily during the Civil War, however there were enough printed, that they are still easily found in uncirculated condition, but choice uncirculated bills with good cuts are hard to find. I have more than one of these type 42 Judah P. Benjamin 2.00 notes so the one in the picture might not be the one you will recieve, but all will be the same fine - very fine quality. |
