Type 31 Obsolete Civil War Currency 5.00 Type of Confederate Money - 5.00 Bank Note issued by the CSA Nickname or Vignettes - "Five Females" The left vignette is Minerva, the Goddess of War. The center vignette is the five female or maidens, they represent Commerce, Agriculture, Justice, Liberty and Industry. The right is a statue of George Washington. Date & Place of Issue - Richmond Virginia on 09/02/1861 Serial Number & Plate Letter - 20816 B Condition - Fine. This confederate money has a very nice appearance for fine. Nice red overprints and no major faults, just honest wear. A couple nice red fibers are present. Back - The backs of the T-31 Obsolete Civil War currency are plain, this example shows wear on the back as per grade. Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell Number 244, Fricke CR 31 PF-1, which means this bill has an A or B plate letter. Number Issued & Printers - A low mintage by the Confederacy as only 58,860 werer printed by the Southern Bank Note Company. Type of Bank Paper Used - Thick red fiber paper Payable In - Fundable in eight percent stock or bonds of the the Confederate States of America. Notes - A very fine example of T-31 for the grade of fine. To get these in higher grades the cost goes up astronomically.
