Type 21 obsolete civil war currency 20.00 Alexander Stephens Fine - Very Fine
Type of Confederate Money - Type 21 Confederate States of America treasury note being one of the twenty dollar denominations and issued during the early part of the Civil War.
Nickname or Vignettes - A very attractive CSA note with green tinting and Alexander H. Stephens is in the portrait. Stephens served as the vice president of the confederacy during the Civil War.
Date & Place of Issue - Richmond Virginia on September 02, 1861
Serial Number & Plate Letter - The serial number is 5648 which is written twice by hand in brown ink, the plate letter of this confederate note is Y.
Condition - fine/very fine. A very attractive note for the lower grade. It just shows a lot of honest wear with no major faults. This type 21 example would do nicely in any confederate money collection until you could afford a higher graded bill.
Back - plain, this one shows more wear than the front
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number T-21 CR-146, the Fricke number is PF - 6, this means this is the variety with the dark green overprint and on paper with the CSA watermark.
Number Issued & Printers - Keatinge and Ball of Columbia South Carolina issued only 164,248 of these type 21 examples of obsolete civil war currency.
Type of Bank Paper Used - High quality bank note paper
Payable In - Six months after the ratification of a treaty of peace between the Confederate States and the United States of America the Confederate States of America will pay on demand twenty dollars to bearer. Fundable in 8 percent stock or bonds.
