Type 16 Jefferson Davis fifty dollars in Almost Uncirculated condition

T-16 Jefferson Davis 50 dollars

A nice upper grade example of Type 16 Jefferson Davis Fifty dollar bill issued during the Civil War on September 02, 1861 from Richmond Virginia. This bill will grade almost uncirculated and would be choice except for some small pinholes and a small ink smear on the Register's signature. This is Criswell variety #81 and PF#03, which means the Engraver's name is above fundable on the left side and no series number is above the 50. This type also comes on paper with the CSA watermark in script. This was the first of the Confederate fiftys to honor Jefferson Davis and the CSA printed only 426,016 of these examples. These are now getting scarce in the upper choice uncirculated grades. This note has a beautiful green overprint which contrasts nicely with the white paper and black inks. The paper to this note is whiter than the scan suggests, for some reason, some of these confederate bills are hard to get an accurate scan.
