South Carolina Confederate Money CR16 Certificate Indebtedness Ten VF

A South Carolina certificate of indebtedness from the 1873 issue that was printed during the tumultous time of Reconstruction in the state after the Civil War era. The man in the lower left corner of this SC bill is General Daniel Morgan, the center vignette is based on the painting of Sergeants Jasper and Newton rescuing American Prisoners from the British during the Revolutionary War. On the right is the vignette "Josey" a popular engraving by James Bannister and seen on several obsolete notes. These certificate of indebtedness notes of South Carolina were up until a couple years ago were thought to be very scarce, but a cache was found at this time and now there are several floating around for collectors to purchase. The Criswell number is CR16 and there is a hand penned cancel on the back, an added bonus is the low two digit serial number of 64, which is machine printed in red ink.
