Charleston, SC - Bank of the State of South Carolina 25 cents July 1, 1861. This fractional features a gamecock vignette and is printed on the back of what was formerly a bond. The red overprint on the face reads Secured by a Mortage of the Road and its Equipment. Interest Payable Semi-Annually, At The Bank of the State of South Carolina. This is a very unusual note with the secured by a mortgage of the road and its equipment, don't know if this is from the state of South Carolina or was used at a later date. Either way, a very intersting piece of confederate money.
