Type of Confederate Money - A souvenier type 68 confederate banknote. This currency was a souvenier from the 25th Richmond Confederate Reunion in the year 1915. ? I am not exactly sure of the date, it is printed on the ratification box and is hard to make out. I would imagine that the Richmond UCV reunion was probably the grandest of them all, so this is a great piece of Civil War memorabilia, from the capitol of the confederacy. The soldiers attending this reunion were already getting some age on them, most would have been in their 70s at this time, with their ranks already thinned out considerably. Nickname or Vignettes - horse drawn artillery, but the main attraction of this note is the red stamping, with the wording listed below. Date & Place of Issue - originally February 17, 1864 then reused in about the year 1915 for the veterans of the War Between the States. Serial Number & Plate Letter - 11466 Condition - Fine, with two paper clip marks, which could be the reason this note is still around. It could have gotten put away with other papers on top of it and was never thrown away, like most of these souveneir bills. Back - as grade, with the red stamping from the 25th United Confederate Veterans showing through from the front. Criswell & Fricke Numbers - T-68 Number Issued & Printers - 9,145,000 of these bills were originally produced, no one probably ever knew how many of these were stamped for the veterans for the confederate reunion. Type of Bank Paper Used - good quality banknote paper Payable In - The stamp for the reunion on the front of this bill states, 25th Confederate Reunion Richmond, VA June 1915 ? J. M. Williams, Paymaster General U. C. V. Notes - Confederate momentos such as this one are very collectible, the picture shows the actual 25th Richmond UCV reunion bill that is for sale.
