Type of Confederate Money - Five cents fractional currency issued by the state of North Carolina during the Civil War era.
Nickname or Vignettes - The center vignette is a portrayal of prosperity and Liberty. Liberty is seated holding the liberty pole and cap with the Constitution in her lap.
Date & Place of Issue - January 1, 1863 from Raleigh North Carolina
Serial Number & Plate Letter - A rare single digit example of this NC confederate money, the serial number is 4 and plate letter T.
Condition - Uncirculated, whoever recieved this note some 140 years ago, must have put it away to keep for the low serial number.
Back - plain, this back has a hinge mark from an old time collector.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 148, which means this is the regular issue for the nickel change note issued by the state treasury in 1863.
Number Issued & Printers - J. T. Paterson and Co of Augusta Georgia
Type of Bank Paper Used -plain white paper with no watermarks
Payable In - The state of North Carolina will pay five cents to bearer redeemable at the treasury on or before January 1, 1866.
