This 5.00 North Carolina Confederate money issued on January 01, 1863, during the Civil War, grades Very Fine. This bill has a broad fold down thru the center, a couple pinholes and a slight edge tear about 1/4 inch long at the bottom edge. The back of this confederate money is plain and I did not post a photograph, this back shows the fold as described. Criswell lists this North Carolina treasury note as variety NC-123, which is the bill with the red FIVE overprint. The center vignette of this bill shows the harbor and city of Wilmington North Carolina and at the left is Liberty. D. W. Courts, the treasurer of North Carolina from 1852-1863 is pictured on the right. This confederate money of North Carolina was engraved and lithographed by J. T. Paterson and Co of Augusta Georgia and was fundable in 6 percent coupon bonds. The picture shows the actual confederate money that is for sale.
