| A Civil War Change note issued by the city of Poughkeepsie New York on October 20, 1862. This is an attractive note for a small change issue, but this is because it was made by the American Bank Note Company. The center vignette shows a boy plowing with oxen, on each side of this are shields with 30 in each one. Besides being a city issue, this also is a rare denomination, being the 30 cents issue. The grade is fine, with no faults, just a good bit of wear, the bill was printed on thicker paper, which has darkened somewhat from age. This obsolete union scrip states, To Farmers and Manufacturers Bank in Poughkeepsie Pay bearer thirty cents in current funds when like checks are presented to amount of five dollars. The serial number and plate letter are 4161 C, which was printed by machine in blue ink, and is still quite dark and crisp. The picture shows the actual New York Civil War Obsolete scrip that is for sale. The back of this change note is plain and is as per grade. |
