A very nicely executed example of Civil War Scrip from the City of Newark New Jersey in the denomination of fifteen cents, this is the issue with the red overprinting made by the Union Bank Note Company. The grade of this union currency is very good or even better, the paper is still very crisp but with some fold marks. The backs of this New Jersey scrip were plain, this one has hinge marks from an old time collector putting this in his album. The terms of payment are as follows: The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Newark N.J. will pay to bearer one year after date fifeen cents for value received at the treasurer's office. City Loan Certificate and then has the signatures of the City Clerk and Mayor. The picture shows the actual Obsolete Civil War scrip that is for sale.
