A small size piece of NJ scrip from Jersey City. This obsolete civil war currency was issued during the early part of the Civil War on November 15, 1862. The National Bank Note Company produced this bill which has a portrait of Thomas Jefferson in the center. This civil war scrip states that the Mayor and common council of Jersey City will pay to bearer five cents one year after date when presented in sums not less than five dollars. The back has a fancy design with medallions with 5s enclosed in them.
