A nice set of change notes issued from Alton New Hampshire by Jones and Sawyer, who were most likely merchants in the city of Alton. This set of fractional currency dates from the Civil War period with the date of November 26, 1862 and consists of the nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar issues. They are all nicely matched and will grade from fine to very fine. No faults to mention, just wear from circulating during the Rebellion. At the left there is a bar with the name of J. Jones and at the right is the name of A. H. Sawyer. All the notes state Payable in current bank bills in sums of one dollar and upwards at our place of business. Each bill is signed and with a hand written serial number. The backs all have a fancy green design with the denomination in the center. A good opportunity to acquire the set all at one time. The picture shows the actual set of fractional currency from NH that are for sale, in addition the backs of this obsolete money can be viewed in the photograph gallery.
