Type of Confederate Money - 50.00 Mississippi Treasury Bill that was backed by the Faith of the State.
Nickname or Vignettes - At the left is Ceres kneeling by an Indian, the center has a large passenger train and on the right is Industy seated with gears and tools with factories in the background.
Date & Place of Issue - Issued during the early part of the Civil War on November 1st, 1862 from Mississippi treasuer's office.
Serial Number & Plate Letter - 14940 written in hand in brown ink
Condition - Fine - Very Fine.
Back - The backs of this 1862 Obsolete Civil War Currency were plain, this one is as per grade. An old time collector of paper money printed 33 R6 lightly in pencil.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 33, which means this is the Faith of the State issue with the November 1, 1862 date and the color of the note is green with the red overprint.
Number Issued & Printers - Unknown, but the State of Mississippi issued this series of notes backed only with the faith of the State to be able to pay later. This confederate money was not even backed by cotton as was their previous issue.
Type of Bank Paper Used - Average quality
Payable In - The State of Mississippi promises to pay to bearer Fifty dollars at the Treasury office. Fundable in bonds bearing eight percent, payable in ten years when not less than Five Hundred dollars is presented. Receivable in payment of all dues to the State.
