Type of Confederate Money - Three Dollar Cotton Pledged Mississippi state treasury issue.
Nickname or Vignettes - At the left end is a panel with ships enclosed, in the center is a sall passenger train at the top and a dog's head at the bottom, on the right side is a sailor holding a boat oar.
Date & Place of Issue - Issued during the early part of the Civil War on May 1, 1862 from Jackson Mississippi.
Serial Number & Plate Letter - 23539
Condition - Very Good, this note is well worn with several pinholes
Back - The backs of this obsolete Mississippi money are plain, this one shows the wear as per grade.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 19, which means this is the 3.00 cotton pledged issue with green overprints and dated May 1, 1862.
Number Issued & Printers - The state of Mississippi issued 5 Million dollars worth of the cotton pledged notes. These bills were secured only by the cotton that MS planters had stored.
Type of Bank Paper Used - Average quality paper with several different color of tints being used, which are all different types.
Payable In - On demand, after proclamation to present the State of Mississippi will pay to bearer the sum of three dollars out of proceeds of cotton pledged for redemption of this note, at the treasurer's office, in Jackson Miss.
