A set of four notes from the Bank of Manchester in Michigan. This bank was only in operation from 1837 to 1839 and they only produced a 2.00, 3.00, 5.00 and 10.00 note, this sale is for the complete set. It is not often you can buy a complete set of broken bank notes at one time. The average grade is around fine. The 2.00 bill has a portrait of George Washington and a large cow. The three dollar bill has a portrait of Benjamin Franklin and also a picture of a cow, this one has been backed at the right side for some reason. the Five dollar has a portrait of Lafayette and also cows, this time a whole herd is present in the picture, also a good serial number of 222. The ten dollar has a portrait of an unknown woman, this time the animal is a horse, there is a small aperture in the center of this 10.00 note. All the circles with the animals has State of Michigan enclosed, except for the ten which has Michigan Safety Fund. These bills from the Bank of Manchester are usally found cut cancelled, these are not cancelled, thus making them more valuable. These broken bank notes are all dated during the year of 1837, the first year this bank was in operation. The picture shows the actual complete set of Bank of Manchester notes that are for sale, in addition seperate views of this MI obsolete currency can be viewed in the photograph gallery.
