Massachusetts obsolete union scrip Kimball Robinson Co 4 change notes
Massachusetts obsolete union scrip Kimball Robinson Co 4 change notes
A set of 4 fractional currency notes from Kimball Robinson & Co of Boston Massachusetts. This obsolete money consists of a nickel, dime and 2 quarter notes, they were issued during the earlier part of the Civil War on November 17, 1862 and were drawn from the Eliot Bank of Boston. The .05, .10 and .25 notes will grade from fine to very fine and these 3 scrip notes were fully issued and signed with serial numbers all written in red ink. The other quarter note is extra fine with 2 punch cancels. Even though this note is punch cancelled it has no signature or serial number so therefore it must be a remainder and was never fully issued. All 4 of these obsolete MA civil war scrip notes have a fancy green back which can be seen in the photograph gallery. I do not exactly know what Kimball and Robinson were, but there is a boot on each of these bills, so they might have been boot makers, or maybe even a tannery or leather works. The picture shows the actual 4 MA scrip change note set that is for sale.
