Maryland Obsolete Money Valley Bank Five Dollars PCGS 63

Your Price: $250.00
Item Number: Maryland Valley Bank 5 Dollars Serial Number 5213
Manufacturer: MD - The Chesapeake State, Capital - Annapolis
Rare Condition for Issue
Hagerstown, MD - Valley Bank $5 Northern Scrip dated January 31, 1856. President A. Clark would close this bank's doors for the last time in 1856, making this one of the final notes produced by this institution. It is rare to find this vintage bill in excellent condition as these notes were fully issued. This vitnage note has three seperate images. In the upper left corner is a vignette of lady libery and a bald eagle, the center image is a miaden sitting on a anchor by the choppy sea. An etching in the bootom right is of a Roman soldier protecting a maiden. A watermarked "Five" appears underlaid across the bill in red ink, and the number 4 appears to have been rubber stamped on this example in red ink. This pre-Civil War note says "The Valley Bank of Maryland will pay Five Dollars on demand to bearer January 31, 1856. Hagerstown."
