Maryland License Plates
Maryland began issuing state license plates in 1910. This tag was made out of a thin metal and was embossed by hammering the metal over wooden dies. This produced a primitive looking license plate for a state issue and today these are extremely hard to find and approaching 5,000.00 in value. Porcelain was used from 1911 thru 1914. In 1934 MD used the slogan "1634 Tercenteneary 1934", from 1942 to 1947 Maryland wanted their residents to "Drive Carefully" and in 1984 came "1634-1984 350th Anniversary". Maryland has mostly produced pairs of their auto tags with the exception of a couple years, strangely, pairs were produced thru WWII.
