A parish note from Louisiana issued during the middle part of the Civil War on April 1, 1863 from St. Martinsville. This obsolete civil war scrip is the one dollar denomination and grades very fine with a small nick out of the bottom border. This is one of the dual language notes that were printed in Louisiana during the Rebellion. This one states the following: Secured by a special war tax for the redemption of the debt, The Parish of St. Martin will pay one dollar after date to the order of the comptroller of the office of the parish recorder with eight percent interest from maturity until paid, and recievable when due for all debts due the Parish of St. Martin. The back has green overprint which is in both lanuguages also. A great piece of early Americana. The picture shows the actual confederate money that is for sale, in addition the back of the obsolete civil war parish note can be viewed in the photograph gallery.
