LaPorte IN Plank Road Company five dollars 1853 in Fine condition
A beautiful five dollar note issued by the LaPorte and Plymouth Plank Road Company on May 10, 1853 from LaPorte Indiana. These Plank Road companies went out of business because of the repair work that was continually needed to keep up the roads. This bill has farm scenes as vignettes, at the left is a woman drawing water up from a well, in the center is a cattle scene and on the right are men coming home from what looks like a hunting expedition. The note has an overall reddish brown overprint, which makes a very attractive example of obsolete money. The back is plain and shows more wear than the front. The picture shows the actual Indiana obsolete currency that is for sale, in addition a larger view of this IN Plank Road scrip can be seen in the photograph gallery.
