GA Obsolete Civil War Currency 1862 Type of Confederate Money - Fifty dollar Georgia treasury note issued during the Civil War era. Nickname or Vignettes - The left vignette portrays Justice holding her scales, the portrait at the right and left center is of Governor Joseph E. Brown, the center is Ceres standing with farm crops and then again on the right is Justice. Date & Place of Issue - January 15, 1862 from Milledgeville, Georgia Serial Number & Plate Letter - 9885 A Condition - Professionally graded by PCGS at Choice New 63 and even with the PPQ, premium paper quality, designation. Back - The backs of this Georgia Obsolete Civil War currency were plain, this one is as per grade. Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number, GA CR-2, which means this is the regular issue with 2 black treasury stamps on the face of the bill. The stamps on this particular bill are a very deep black. Number Issued & Printers - The state of Georgia originally issued 15,000 of these fifty dollar notes. Payable In - The state of Georgia will pay bearer fifty dollars redeemable in eight per cent state bonds or specie, six months after a treaty of peace, or when the Banks of Savannah and Augusta resume specie payment if before that time. Notes - Georgia Treasury bills are still fairly common, however, in the uncirculated grades, they are not quite so common. The actual Georgia Confederate money for sale is in the picture.
