Alaska License Plates
Alaska License Plates
License Plates from the State of Alaska are most likely the most expensive state to put together a complete state run. The first tag from the 49th state was issued in 1921 and that tag alone can cost 20,000.00. In fact, from that license plate thru the early 1930s each year would cost well over 1,000.00, with several of the 1920 issues costing over 10,000.00. The total car registrations in Alaska was still only around 1,000 up until almost 1930. So a complete Alaska Run of license plates is out of reach of most people, however, there is a way out. Since Alaska didn't become a state until 1959, you can put together a complete state run from that time for a fraction of the money. Some of the slogans used on Alaska License plates have been North to the Future, The Great Land, The Last Frontier and the Gold Rush Centennial. The Alaskan Flag has been used on most issues since statehood, except in 1966 when the totem pole was utilized and then again in 1976 when the Kodiac bear was used and currently the Gold Rush plate does not have the Alaskan Flag.
