Alabama License Plates
The state of Alabama started requiring vehicles to be registered as early as 1903, however they did not require a license plate to be put on the cars. Finally in 1912 Alabama finally required license plates to be displayed on the state's cars. These 1912 issues are extremely scarce and expensive and will bring around 7500.00 in average condition. All the early AL issues are scarce and expensive up through 1918, all bringing at least 1,000.00. The only slogan used by AL has been Heart of Dixie, some years a large heart was utilized in the design also. For the most part Alabama has issued single plates, but there are a few years of pairs also. Alabama just started using the YOM, or year of manufacture law, where you can put a year of license plate on your car as the same year model as the auto. But check these laws first before purchasing for this purpose, as laws can change quickly.
