Nickname or Vignettes - The center vignette is a portrait of Governor Watts surrounded by a wharf scene, a confederate flag, and a military camp with cannon, tents and etc. At the left is an Indian brave with bow and arrow and a feather headdress. The right shows a map of Alabama underneath a tree.
Date & Place of Issue - Alabama issued this confederate money towards the end of the Civil War on January 1, 1864 from Montgomery.
Serial Number & Plate Letter - This civil war currency has a low serial number of 471 and plate letter S.
Condition - Very choice almost uncirculated. This bill would be a gem if not for a broad corner fold.
Back - Very ornate green back wtih Fifty Dollars written along the top, 50 in the middle and State of Alabama at the top. At each corner are medallions with 50s in them. A very attractive back for confederate money.
Criswell & Fricke Numbers - Criswell number 13 with a rarity of R5.
Number Issued & Printers - Engraved by W. Keenan & Co, printed and lithographed by J. T. Patterson and Co of Augusta Georgia.
