This tag from The Heart of Dixie is from the year 1953 and is in very good condition. The back of this 53 tag has more light rust spots than does the front. The State of Alabama issued their license plates only in a single tag during the year 1953. The color is white with dark blue lettering, ALA 53 is at the bottom. The number of this tag is 2-19952. The pacecar for the 1953 Indianapolis 500 was a Ford Crestline Sunliner and was driven by William Clay Ford, Sr. Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Buick all installed 12 volt electrical systems, power brakes are offered by Buick and Oldsmobile. The Chevrolet Corvette is introduced, it was the first volume production sports car and the first production car with a plastic body to be produced in quantity. The first production Corvette rolls off the assembly line in Flint, Michingan, on June 30. All cars are nearly identical, Polo White exterior with Sportsman Red interior, 3-speed automatic transmission, and 150-hp Blue Flame Six 6-cylinder engine. The price of the first Corvettes was about 3500.00 and by the end of the year, 300 1953 Corvettes had been built. Some of the other new models produced this year were the Buick Skylark, Chevrolet Bel-Air, Olds Starfire, Mercedes Benz 180 Series, Dodge Firearrow and the Buick Skyhawk.
