1911 New York License Plates

An antique set of 1911 New York license plates for a passenger automobile, which will grade good plus. These are getting harder and harder to find in pairs and 1911 was only the second year of license plates for the state of New York, the previous year, 1910 was the first year the state registered automobiles to drive on the states highways. In 1911 there were approximately 81,000 cars registered to drive the roads in the state. The color is maroon with white letters and at the right stacked vertically is NY. This was early in automobile history, the brand of Chevrolet was begun in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet and Durant. The Ford Model T was still in its infancy, being only 2 years old. Also in 1911 Cadillac developed the first electric starter for an automobile and the first Indianapolis 500 race was held this year. The department of motor vehicles registration number of this rare pair is 61023.
